Termites are the most destructive structural insect pest in the world. They may so severely damage a building as to be responsible for its condemnation and replacement. They eat wood and other cellulose products such as paper, cardboard and fiber board, carpet etc... and will destroy structural timbers, pallets, crates, books, wooden tools and other wood products. Also, in their search for food, they will damage many materials which they do not normally eat. In tunneling through the ground, subterranean termites will penetrate lead covered and plastic covered electrical cable and so will cause shorting-out of electrical system. Again, these termites may live for years in buried tree stumps of or from lumber beneath concrete buildings and then by penetrating through hairline cracks in floors and walls as well as through expansion joints, suddenly erupt in search of edible materials may be found in interior door frames and rarely moved furniture such as file cabinets, cupboards and book cases etc....... In attacking packaging and crating in the stores and warehouses area they will seriously damage most of the stored items before it reach to our notice. On their bodies, they carry fungus, spores from the soil and so contribute to structural decay.
